SO……what will 2017 bring to the Real Estate market?  I wish I had a crystal ball, but right now it’s anyone’s guess as to what will happen with the new administration in Washington, the economy, legislation regarding housing on the national, state and local fronts, transportation issues, jobs or layoffs, home prices, inventory, etc.  Prices softened a bit toward the end of 2016, and days on market lengthened, as these uncertainties loomed larger and larger in everyone’s minds.  Construction slowed on both high-rise developments and single family home starts.
One thing we do know is that even if the Fed decides to continue a slow increase in interest rates, it will be minimal and gradual, and shouldn’t put too much of a damper on the housing market here in the Bay Area.  However, until some of the above questions begin to reveal answers, we see that Buyers are “waiting it out” and Sellers may also wait until after both the Presidential inauguration and Super Bowl Sunday to make their move onto the market. February should be a hot month – if you’re considering selling, now is the time to get in touch with us!
Here are the stats as we begin January 2017:

Condo/Townhome/Multifamily:  130
Total homes available:  581, representing a gain of 4.3% over January 2017
